 Dr Suresh Chandra Bhatia

            Dr. Suresh Chandra Bhatia, born Oct 1940 at Mathura (U.P.), did Elect Engg from UP Board Roorkee, Graduate in Elect Engg from Institution of Engineers (India) & Graduate in Industrial Engg from IIIE, NITIE Campus Mumbai. Post Retirement he did his Adv. Diploma in Research Management & joined Ph.D. program of Aligarh Muslim University. He was awarded his Ph. D.(Business Admn) in 2009 on the theme of “Rightsizing Human Resources in SAIL”.              He had a brilliant career spanning over 40 years at Bhilai, Rourkela & Bokaro Steel Plants of SAIL & Retired from Bokaro in Jan 2000 as Chief Engineer(Design)/Elect. During his entire career he  worked  for motivating staff & officers on the importance of Computerisation & usage of IT Applications in day-to-day work.  He displayed exemplary Leadership qualities in spreading awareness & motivation for various IT Applications during the crucial period of changeover from centralized regime of Mainframe computers to decentralized system of Computerisation in depts. & work places provided with access terminals for on-line two-way Info inputs.              As President of Engg Sciences at 89^th Indian Science Congress in Jan 2002 at Lucknow, he delivered his prestigious Presidential Address “Info-Tech Applications in Integrated Steel Plants”.  One of his Hindi Technical book entitled “Info-Tech Applications in Integrated Steel Plants” was awarded Second Prize by Govt of India, Ministry of Steel in 2001-02.  In all 11 of his Hindi Technical Books have been awarded by Govt of India - 8 by Steel Ministry & 3 by Ocean Development.               He was instrumental in formation of CSI Chapters at Bokaro & Ghaziabad.  He worked as Member MC at Bokaro & Chairman, NC at Ghaziabad Chapters for couple of years since inception. Later as Member, CSI Nomination Committee in 2007-08 & again in 2010-11.  He displayed exemplary Management & Leadership qualities in organizing CSI Elections for various elective offices & also mobilizing for conducting Chapter Elections.              He is a Sr Life Member of CSI; Fellow, Institution of Engineers (India); Fellow, Quality Circle Forum of India; Fellow, Indian Society of Lighting Engineers; Ph.D. Fellow of All India Management Association; Chartered Engineer (India) & Life Member, in other professional organisations. He has been President, Engg Sciences at the 89^th Indian Science Congress in Jan 2002 at its session held at Lucknow where he organized three sessions on Information Technology, Education Opportunities & Health Care Facilities.              In grateful recognition of his services to the Computer Society of India and his outstanding accomplishments as an IT professional, Computer Society of India awards him the FELLOWSHIP of the Society, on the occasion of its 46^th Annual Convention held at Ahmedabad, December 2011.   Prof. P Thrimurthy                                                                               Mr M D AgrawalChairman, Awards Committee                                                              President   AhmedabadDecember 1, 2011
